I have Character Modeling class this quarter (read: tons of Zbrush) and well, we have to concept our own character turnaround.
So I just started brainstorming all kinds of random ideas... nude anatomically-correct people (not quite as fun without gesture posing: you have to model and rig in a T-shape pose),
's "number children",
's "Madame Guillotine" skull hockey mask, short fat old guy with a giant moustache, a monocle and a walking cane... heck, I even ended up thinking about tree people, like how Harold's daughter would look like (Fallout 3 reference) if his seeds had spread across the Wasteland (those pigtails used to be branches.)
So yeah, this idea vaguely came from a photo on Facebook in which an old classmate (cute not-so-bright up-town chick who's too obsessed with her own looks
) was on a beach with fisherman boots, having tons of fun just like a little kid (I think she was trying to catch sea crabs or something.) I just thought it looked interesting because it was a little bit like a smack in the face for assuming that one could know people too well.
I ended up playing around with the idea of how I'd be able to make a cute funky chick who didn't fit within the "ideal standards of anatomical beauty." She would have her own thing going with her own little quirks: could it be called visual character design "sincerity/credibility/believability?"
I think I ended up painting in Photoshop for 8 hours straight.
I call her Pi, like the Greek letter or that funky mathematical value. No idea why, thought it'd be fun. PS: IT'S ONLY 2ND WEEK OF SCHOOL AND I'VE BEEN DOING ALL-NIGHTERS ALREADY AMFG I NEED SLEEP.
